Wrap yourself in pink, the colour of energy and romance. Pink tourmaline resembles a ruby and is one of the most valuable and rare gemstones. The September birthstone is also the breast cancer awareness month gem.
EVERYONE IS UNIQUE
Jewellers like to work with it for its appearance and processing possibilities, and it fascinates scientists with its physical properties. The combination of light purple, peachy pink, and fuchsia is not found in any other gemstone. Some tourmalines have been colored pink or yellow by natural or laboratory radiation. There are no two identical tourmalines in the world!
THE AMERICAN DREAM IN PRACTICE
The first report of tourmaline dates back to the end of the 19th century. Two young American miners brought green tourmalines, found in the Mount Mica mine in Maine, to the Tiffani and Co. jewellery store. They were lucky enough to meet directly with the master jeweller, George F. Kunz. He was so enchanted by the stones that he convinced Charles Tiffany to buy them. Thus began Tourmaline's journey to worldwide popularity and the rise of the company to the top of the world.
The whole world fell in love with tourmalines! For example, even the Chinese Empress Ch'-si ordered jewellery with this gem from Tiffany. Her passion for pink tourmaline knew no bounds. Between 1902 and 1910, the Chinese dynasty bought 120 tonnes of pink tourmaline.
In the middle of the 20th century, American miners discovered the Tourmaline Queen mine, from which they mined the stunning "Blue Cap" tourmalines - multi-coloured tourmalines ranging from blue to deep pink. The American Museum of Natural History named these gems the find of the century. They are extremely rare and have immense collector value.
PROPERTIES OF TOURMALINE
Pink tourmaline has a beneficial effect on the endocrine system and heals the heart, lungs, and skin. Eastern medicine recommends placing it on the heart chakra, or where our physical heart is. It is thus an ideal stone for a pendant on a chain.
Rubbelite, or the red variety of tourmaline, works as an aphrodisiac that attracts love. It strengthens us in the fact that we must first love ourselves, and then others will start loving us.
You can also donate pink tourmaline jewellery as a reminder of breast cancer awareness month. If you know a person who has been affected by this insidious disease in any way, a jewel of love, strength, and energy will be a beautiful gift for them.
Pink tourmaline supports zest for life, adds physical energy and courage, brings love and detoxifies.
CAPTIVATING AND WORLD FAMOUS
Among the most famous ones is the so-called "Caesar's ruby", a beautiful rubellite that was donated by the Swedish king Gustav III. Russian Empress Catherine II. A large, or poppy-shaped, brooch decorated with tourmaline and diamond was worn here by an important philanthropist - Lily Safra. In 2012, it sold for over $1.27 million!
MAIN TOURMALINE DEPOSIT
Today, pink tourmaline is mined in many places around the world: Brazil, Madagascar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Burma, and a number of African countries, including Mozambique, Nigeria, and Botswana. Tourmalines can also be found in the Czech Republic. A species - rossmanite - was even discovered in the Žďár region and around Velké Meziříčí.
