High sparkle and favourable price, these are the two biggest positives of moissanite, a stone that is indistinguishable from a diamond. Its price and features will pleasantly surprise you. The piece of jewellery in which the moissanite is set shines beautifully and is suitable for both special occasions and everyday wear.
THE DISCOVERY OF MOISSANITE
In 1893, French chemist Henri Moissan examined various rock samples in Canyon Diablo, Arizona. He also peered into a meteor crater, where he came upon a cluster of sparkling stones and mistakenly identified them as diamonds. But in fact he discovered silicon carbides, or moissanites.
However, Henri Moissan was not the first to encounter moissanites. The American chemist Edward G. Acheson created silicon carbide in the laboratory as early as 1891. However, like Henri Moissan, he made a mistake, trying to create synthetic diamonds and instead created moissanite.
It wasn't until 1904 that Acheson and Moissan realised they were looking at the same glittering mineral. And although Acheson was the first to successfully produce it in the laboratory, moissanite was named in honour of Henri Moissan.
GEMSTONE SUITABLE FOR JEWELLERY FOR EVERYDAY WEAR
Moissanites are the best alternatives to diamonds. Because of their durability and hardness, these lab-grown gems are less likely to scratch or chip. These key factors make them the ideal gemstone for everyday wear! Therefore, they are a clear choice for engagement and wedding rings.
CHARACTERISTICS OF MOISSANITE
Diamond remains clearly the hardest mineral. However, moissanite ranks right behind it! On the Mohs hardness scale, diamonds were rated 10, moissanites 9.25! And even though diamonds are a bit harder, moissanites have more fire and sparkle in them. This means it sparkles more and spreads a spectrum of colours like no other stone.
FAVOURABLE PRICE
Moissanites are more affordable than natural diamonds. The price of moissanite is around 10,000 CZK to 15,000 CZK for 1 carat, while 1 carat of natural diamond ranges from 50,000 CZK to 500,000 CZK.
WHY CHOOSE MOISSANITE?
QUALITY GEMSTONE
Thanks to its physical, chemical, and optical properties, moissanite can compete with natural diamond. It has a high hardness, which makes it a suitable gemstone for engagement and wedding rings.
ECOLOGICAL STONE
Moissanite is a lab-grown stone. If sustainability and ecology are close to you, then we recommend choosing laboratory-produced moissanites or lab-grown diamonds.
AFFORDABLE MINERAL
It is half the price of a natural diamond. It has therefore become a popular stone for jewellery with a large central stone, or also for wedding eternity rings, where the stones are set around the entire circumference.
MOISSANITE COLOUR OPTIONS
The laboratory process for the production of moissanites also makes it possible to grow its different colour variants. In our goldsmith's studio, you will find black, champagne, yellow, blue and green moissanites.
MOISSANITE SHAPES AND SIZES
We most often use round or oval cuts in engagement rings. If you desire a non-traditional engagement ring, we can also fit "fancy" cuts into it, such as a teardrop, marquise, or square cut.
The offer includes small moissanites for wedding rings but also beautiful carat moissanites. Whatever shape or colour you choose, you will never go wrong with moissanite. We will be happy to advise you on choosing a suitable stone for jewellery and show you different sizes, shapes, and lors. Together, we will create a custom-made piece of jewellery, exactly according to your wishes.
