A stone of passion, courage, and fulfilled dreams. Amethyst has a rich purple colour that stands out perfectly in white, yellow, or rose gold. If you are looking for a beautiful and original gift, give the stone of the month of February!
MEET THE AMETHYST
The oldest amethysts come from Minos, an island in the Aegean Sea, and date from ca. 3100 BC. They are polished cabochons inlaid with gold, a very popular combination to this day! Amethyst was also loved by Egyptian kings. The amethyst beads in the tomb of King Tutankhamun or the beautiful amethyst ring of Queen Cleopatra are proof of this!
Amethyst also adorns England's oldest crown jewel, worn by Edward III in the 11th century. Devotee. Queen Elizabeth I wore a distinctive amethyst necklace, and amethysts still adorn the crown jewels today.
Most amethysts came to Europe from Brazil. In the Middle Ages, it was a very rare gem that only the rich could afford. At one point, it was even more valuable than a diamond. But nothing lasts forever, so when large amethyst mines were found in Russia's Ural Mountains in 1799, their price dropped.
COLORS OF AMETHYST
Amethyst is an enchanting gemstone due to its properties and color. The wide range from light to deep purple is valued by all goldsmiths who like to set this stone in beautiful and original jewellery.
Amethyst is also known in combination with other gemstones - from pink sapphire, emerald and diamond to citrine, peridot and morganite. The most famous combination of two coloured gemstones is ametrine – a combination of amethyst and citrine.

DID YOU KNOW?
An amethyst geode is a hollow rock with amethyst crystals lining the interior walls. First, a cavity had to form, and this could happen anywhere the lava was close to the earth's surface. Because of this, amethyst geodes can be found in many places around the world.
Geodes come in different shapes and sizes. From palm size to 5-metre giants! Other minerals, such as quartz and calcite, are commonly included in geodes.
CARE OF AMETHYSTS
Amethyst is suitable for jewellery for everyday wear. But protect it from direct sunlight and high temperatures, which can cause the colour to fade. When cleaning, use a soft toothbrush and soapy water.
